Renewing my mind with the word of God

When I first reached out for counseling, I was struggling with the aftermath of my divorce and adultery, as well as other poor decisions that I had made throughout my life. This caused me to fall into a pattern of self-destruction. Counseling helped me become more grounded in my identity in Christ. I learned how to put on the "new man" and walk in the Spirit. I really got a lot out of the recommended books and additional resources that I was given throughout the counseling process. Moving forward, I can now recognize when self-destructive thoughts come into my mind and pick-up my "sword of the Spirit" - the word of God - in response. Renewing my mind daily has become an ongoing practice. I also have been attending the Women's Bible Study which I enjoy because it provides me with an online community of Christian women who I can study the scriptures with on a weekly basis. My advice to others who are considering counseling would be to come with an open mind and heart.
